Harvard Medical School's Dr. Michael Detmar stated, "The question now is, can we, by this method, improve hair growth in humans?" Dr. Detmar reported he and colleagues are presently working on how vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) can be delivered to human scalps. In research mice, the protein vascular endothelial growth factor enlarged blood vessels in hair follicles making them larger so that more roots grew and hair became thicker.
